今回も引続き、『ホビット村』のお話をしたいと思います。ホビット村へのアクセスはオークランドから1号線を南下し、コロマンデル方面に向かう2号線で左折、そして27号線を下ってMatamata方面へというルート一般的。約2時間の旅、信号が一つもない快適なドライブです^^ ホビット村は農家であるアレクサンダー家の土地で、その広さは約500ヘクタール（1250エーカー）というのですから・・・数字で言われても、きっとピンときませんねぇ^^; ざぁ〜と言うと、東京ドームが５００個分くらい・・・・これでもわからないという方には、兎に角とてつもなく広い農場だとお感じ下さい ^^; そこには１万３千のロムニー種と呼ばれるNZ生まれの羊、スコットランドのアバディーンからきたアンガスビーフの牛が500頭ほどいる大農場です。

映画監督のピータージャクソン氏は、ホビット村を探すのに大変苦労しました。1998年の9月、アレクサンダーファームのことを耳にしたジャクソン氏は、ヘリコプターをチャーターし、現場へ駆けつけたといいます。彼は、空から見たアレクサンダーファームがホビット村として完璧だ！と直感で判断、すぐにアレクサンダー氏に会い行ったと言われています。そして半年後の1999年3月、ホビット村を建設するに当たり、数々の試練が待っていたことを、当時のジャクソン氏は知る由もありませんでした。この続きはまた後日お話いしたいと思います。
I continue to write about the Hobbiton Village. Access to The Hobbiton Village is pretty simple. When you start at Auckland airport, get on State highway 1 then turn left at highway 2, heading straight toward the Coromandel. When seeing the sign board Highway 27 at around-about, steering to Matamata. The total is 2 hr trip which makes you feel so good with no single traffic lights on the way with a magnificient landscape ^^/
The Hobbiton Village belongs to part of the Alexander Family who own 500 hectare (1250 acre) paddocks for roughly 13000 NZ native sheep called Romney breed and 500 Aberdeen Angus cattle. You can hardly tell how large this farm is. It is almost equal to the size of 500 football fields! In September 1998, Sir Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema discover this farm during an aerial search for suitable film sites. Peper thought this location should be perfect for the Hobbiton Village instinctively, meeting Mr Alexander. In March 1999, when they began constructing the Hobbiton Village, Peter never expected so many problems they had to get over. I will talk about the further stories later.
